What is the sound of social resilience?

This project began as I started asking people where do you go when you’re not at home, and not at work - to hang out, talk, feel connected? Where is your 3rd Place?

For a lot of us, the answer is… nowhere.

A 3rd Place is that other space— the cafés, parks, libraries, dog walks, yoga classes, beaches, book groups. All those casual places where you go regularly to find a conversation, bump into someone interesting, maybe stay longer than you planned. These places act like social glue, they bind us together, they make us feel less lonely.

But for some, the internet is their 3rd Place.

The Archive of 3rd Places is in part a record of human connection where it is flourishing, and in part invitation to go find yourself a 3rd Place.

They’re out there, all around us, and they’re waiting for you-
